Frailty in Diabetic Subjects during COVID-19 and Its Association with HbA1c, Mean Platelet Volume and Monocyte/Lymphocyte Ratio

Background: Frailty is associated with increased risk of hospitalization in diabetic patients. Both SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and type 2 diabetes mellitus contribute to the frailty. In this study we aimed observe clinical laboratory indices subjects during COVID-19 who were either frail or not according Edmonton score. Material methods: During era, 100 consecutive patients divided into two groups as non-frail Frail Scale scores. Laboratory features compared. Results: older than diabetics. Blood urea, serum creatinine, eGFR, plasma albumin, total cholesterol, triglyceride, HbA1c, mean platelet volume (MPV), monocyte lymphocyte ratio (MLR) levels significantly different. Moreover, score was positively correlated blood MLR, MPV, HbA1c inversely eGFR albumin levels. Conclusions: We think that MPV MLR could be surrogate markers frailty elderly outbreak. Strategies keep them normal range do only improve control but also reduce population.
